The Family Birthplace
At Putnam Community Medical Center's Family Birthplace, you'll find a family-centered approach to childbirth in the comfort of a home-like setting.
Your Baby's Touch
To help you and your baby bond in comfort and privacy, Putnam Community Medical Center provides for "rooming in" so your baby can be with you during this special time. This gives you an opportunity to learn more about your baby's habits and puts you within touch. Our experienced staff is here for you and your newborn. Your nurse will instruct you in caring for your infant's needs including bathing, dressing, feeding and/or nursing.
Weekly Tours & Regular Classes
The Family Birthplace offers childbirth education classes including: The Baby Experience, a tour of the OB Unit, held the first Thursday of each month. It is an opportunity to see our facility, learn what to expect during your stay, and ask questions. Lamaze, a six week class, offers the latest techniques in relaxation for a natural delivery. A Sibling class is offered to assist your child in preparing for the new addition to the family.
Even after your discharge, we continue to care for you and your baby. All new parents receive a phone call from us within 24 hours of discharge to answer any questions you may have and make sure all is going well. In addition, you'll receive another follow up call 7 days later.
